As the spring is getting closer we’re working hard to align ourselves closer to the organizations in our region doing the good work of bicycle advocacy.  Check out the Northern Indiana Mountain Bike Association and Central Indiana Bicycle Association websites here.  While you’re there, ya might as well click the link back to our website and do some virtual laps so both our sites get more hits…

Hey all,  Just an update here about our new Winter Hours.  We will be open:

Monday-Friday  1-7pm.

As of now, the plan is to inact our Summer Hours in line with Day Light Savings time, that seemingly arbitrary schedule confuser, so Monday March 11 will begin extended hours.

Also, look forward to announcements about Movie Nights in the shop.  We’ll be showing cycling films of all types to keep ourselves hyped up and ready to ride in this brutal weather.  If there is something specific you wanna see on the big screen let us know!

Stay warm and stop in to see us.  Don’t forget, winter is the best time for an overhaul, get ready for spring.

Why would you keep your bicycle outside in all the nasty that a midwest winter brings? We know you love your bicycle, but keeping it in your apartment while there is snow on the ground really just isn’t rational.  This year let Buckskin keep your ride safe and dry.  Our packages start at just $30.  You haven’t made such a safe investment since you bought your bike in the first place.

Storage options are available from the first week of December through

the first week of March. All bicycles will be held in a secure and weatherproof location.  The space in not unlimited though so if you want in let us know now!

email – ben@buckskinbikes.com

call – 765.889.BIKE

Package A – $30 – You bring your bike to us, drop it off at the shop during the first week of December and we’ll hold it until the weather turns.

Package B –  $40 – We keep you bike just as safe but make the process even more convenient by coming to pick up your bike from you.

Package C – $50 – Not only will we come pick up your bicycle and keep in out of the weather but we will give it our Standard Tune-up in the spring so when it gets dropped back off on your doorstep in the spring it will be ready to ride.

We just finished out latest custom build and it just so happens to belong to our good friend and photographer Kaitlyn Meeks! We know there are a few running around with some good looking Mericer Kilo’s but this is certainly the prettiest we’ve seen in a while.

Here are some pictures and then we’ll get to the details

She had been talking to us about building up a bike for a while and we finally got all the parts, frame, wheels, colors, etc figured out and had it together in a couple days! It’s doubtful we’ve put a bike together for someone as excited as Kaitlyn and the pictures certainly don’t do it justice. We rode around downtown Indy the day after she picked it up and comments and compliments came from every direction! Appropriate or not, every comment meant the same thing: a hot bike for a hot girl.

Kaitlyn is one of a good number who are rolling around on Buckskin customs. There’s nothing like giving an old bike new life and that’s our specialty. There isn’t one online used bike parts store around (the closest you can come is craigslist or ebay) and we plan on having our online store up and running very shortly. The only thing new on Kaitlyn’s bike is the saddle, handlebar tape, paint, and cage straps. EVERYTHING else was already in the shop.

So, if you’re looking into building up a bike but can’t or don’t want to pay for something straight off the line or already have a bike you wanna fix up, come on in and let’s talk! We have 4 different wholesalers that allows us to get basically everything you could imagine and drawers full of used parts to make your build the best for the best price. Not to mention the custom paint and powder coat!

We’ve been working real hard in the shop to get the stuff ya’ll want in stock and ready to go on top of working on our regular service and repair work. But, that doesn’t mean we haven’t been working like dogs to get the shop looking like we actually know what we’re doing instead of looking like a bunch of bikes thieves. So here are a couple pictures of the new additions to the shop cosmetically and structurally just to show off our handyman skills…

Here’s the new workstation bench

…and the view from the right…

The new workstation is for everyone who bought the season-long membership with Buckskin to use. It’s only a $20 fee and you get the next 3 months as well as access to all of the tools and some consultation if you need it!

Next we have to show off some slatwall and our new Burro Bags/United State of Indiana display…

…it isn’t much but it sure gives the shop a good feel! Not to mention we are super stoked to be carrying Burros; a company out of Jacksonville who hand stitches their bags will only the best American made material! It’s been cool to watch the shop transform from a run down dog cage (not an exaggeration…there was dog poop on the floor) to what it is now.

So we hope you like it because it’s the only shop we got!

IT’S A RACE!

Yup, we hosting our first race right here in Anderson. It just so happens that we are ending it at the shop and afterwards Anderson’s own Rawdogs are playing and there will be Tommy J’s pizza for sale!

We will start registration at 3 and the race will start at 4. It’s only $3 to enter and the winner takes all.

It’s just a sprint so if you aren’t in shape or haven’t been riding as much as you’d like to, you’ve still got a chance.

We will start at the cross light of Brown Delaware and 11th. Once the light turns you better haul ass because you only have a quarter mile to win!

Anderson University is also hosting a ride: “Tour de Anderson” that afternoon and it will end at the shop right before the race so if you want any information on that, let us know!

It’s gonna be a hell of a day and we’re getting pumped and making some changes to the shop just for you so if nothing else come over and tell us what you think! We look forward to riding, racing, eating Tommy J’s, listening to some fun music, and, don’t tell AU, but drinking some good beer “for those who can”

Things have been moving so fast around here we haven’t even had any time to get things rolling on the website. So, here’s a little catch up on what all has been going on around here this past mont…

First things first – it all started with our involvement at Anderson Skate Park when we were the mechanics on site for the flatland competition Anarchy in Anderson.

The mobile shop looked like this

Graham Brown and United State of Indiana

came out and shared a booth with us

and, if you don’t know what flatland is, it sort of looks like this

and this…

Needless to say, it was a long, fun day!

Since then, we have had a great relationship with the skatepark. All the BMX boys come hang at the shop since we are only a few streets over and teach us what they can about it.

ALL THAT TO SAY,

we are now the official sponsors of Anderson’s only BMX team. Some of you may be familiar with the Anderson Skate Park and the recent changes of ownership and everything going on down the road. Well one of those changes is a pretty kick ass team. These kids are solid and have already got one comp under their belts. Unfortunately, we didn’t know the first thing about BMX gear…notice the past tense. We don’t know if how far the stretch goes but Buckskin is definitely the only shop carrying BMX around here and it’s been a hell of an experience! We’ll try our best to keep you up to date with the events we’ll be at so ya’ll can come by and chill.
